A huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped cover the costs of Bruno’s surgery this past spring. Your generosity gave him the medical care he needed and a chance at a happy, healthy future.
When Bruno first arrived, his eyes said everything.
For nearly six months, he survived alone on the streets in a community outside of Winnipeg. He searched through garbage for food and relied on the occasional kindness of strangers who would leave something out for him to eat. Day after day, he faced the cold, hunger, and uncertainty with nowhere safe to go.
Before he was rescued, something terrible happened to Bruno, leaving him with a broken left femur. The injury was likely caused by Bruno being hit by a vehicle.
By the time he was flown into our care, it was clear he was in severe pain. He was immediately given Metacam to help relieve pain and inflammation, but it wasn’t enough. The veterinary team had to administer opiates to help keep him comfortable. Thankfully, his pain is now being managed.
At first, Bruno was terrified. But after only a few hours, we started seeing little tail wags, small signs that he was beginning to trust again.
He arrived underweight, unable to properly care for himself, and struggling to go to the bathroom on his own. With patience and support from staff, he’s now able to stand long enough to go to the bathroom.
During recovery, Bruno will require strict rest and won’t be able to go for walks for a minimum of four months.
Bruno’s Fundraising Campaign
We are launching Bruno’s Fundraising Campaign to help cover the cost of his care.
We believe Bruno survived for a reason. After months alone and injured, he was incredibly lucky to be found. Now he needs the support of our community to heal.
Dr. Bebchuk, an orthopedic surgeon at Great Plains Surgery, has confirmed that surgery is possible, though it will be very difficult. The estimated surgery cost is approximately $4,500, with an additional estimated $2,500 needed for aftercare. This includes follow-up veterinary visits, medications, and red light therapy over the next four to six months.
Our goal is to raise $7,000 to give Bruno the chance he deserves.
